Meertalig bericht vanaf Festival Mundial
Op het jaarlijkse 'Festival Mundial' werd deze keer (11 juni 1995) speciale aandacht aan Joegoslavië gegeven. Socia Media was, zoals gebruikelijk op dit soort manifestaties, weer present met een computerdemo met de laatste berichten van de netwerken.
Deze keer werd er een tweede computer opgesteld, waarop iedereen een groet kon intypen. Dit was een onverwacht sucses, de computer was haast de hele middag bezet. Ook de media (nogal 'geil' op Internet en alles daar omheen) waren present. Boyd werd geïnterviewd op Radio Brabant en z'n haardos (hij moest nodig naar de kapper) was ook te zien in het RTL4 nieuws en het NOS journaal.
Dezelfde avond werd het bericht geplaatst in de internationale nieuwsgroep 'yugo.antiwar', die ook in voormalig Joegoslavië gelezen wordt.

Hi everyone,
Today June 11 the yearly 'Festival Mundial' was held in Tilburg. This
is the biggest NGO manifestation in the Netherlands.
Former Yugoslavia was a main topic this time. A special 'Balkan
Square' was created, with two big tents for info stands, music,
discussions, etc. The mayor of Sarajevo was here and lots of other
important people.
I'm not that important, but was invited to show the possibilities of
datacommunications and as usual I put up a computerdemo with the
latest messages from the 'yugo conferences'.
As an experiment I brought a second computer this time and put up
some posters with the text (not really an accurate translation from
Dutch):
'Send your regards to a peace group in former Yugoslavia', which was
not taken to strictly. I promised to post the messages in
yugo.antiwar as soon as I got home.
The computer was engaged almost the whole afternoon. All kinds of
people did write something. Some peace activists, ordinary people,
children, old people. A lot of them typing on a computer for the very
first time, very slowly with one finger.
And a lot of refugees wrote messages. They really had an urge to
write, to communicate with 'home'. Some of them came back several
times to write an other message. This again underlined the need of
putting computers in the refugee centers, for which I lobbied several
years now (but did not find any money).

To all citizens and concerned activists in Bosnia-Hercegovina and
elsewhere in former Yugoslavia.
We, Dutch members of Committee Former Yugoslavia and those of the
Coordination Board of the Bosnian Associations in the BENELUX, let
you know that we continue to be active. For instance, we demonstrated
in the Dutch sea-resort Noordwijk on 30 May 1995, where the foreign
ministers of NATO met to discuss, among other things, the latest
Bosnia-crisis. With around 200 people (we expected just 50), we
called for strong and consistent action against Karadzic's terrorist
acts. Among other things, we demanded the following: "NATO should
carry out limited airstrikes without a new ultimatum (as Karadzic
does not deserve any warning or fruitless negotiations), if possible
on targets with no UN-hostages. However, do carry out further massive
airstrikes against Srpska's military infrastructure if Karadzic does
not release the UN-hostages after a deadline or if he orders them
killed or harmed in any way."(Press Release, 29 May 1995)
We thus are quite radical. We are no pacifists, nor exclusively
concerned with humanitarian aid.
The situation in Bosnia is quite complex and dangerous, but we do not
believe in a "diplomatic solution" in Bosnia. The often-heard
assertion by Western diplomats that there is "no military solution in
Bosnia" is ridiculous and decadent. How did we then defeat Hitler and
his Nazis? By firing paperclips at them?
Therefore, the nationalist extremists in former Yugoslavia must be
isolated, and defeated militarily if necessary. After that,
restoration of tolerance in entire former Yugoslavia and protection
of the multi-ethnic society in entire Bosnia will be possible.
Keep your courage. Nothing is impossible. Nothing is irreparable.
Hold on, until every mosque, every church, every building is restored
in its former glory.

Why do we live? What is the purpose of our lives? When we see the
world around us it seems man has lost the sense of his destiny. Is
peace only a matter of demilitarisation, is famine only a problem of
lack of food? Is drug-addiction only a problem of unemployment? The
solution to the problems of humanity CANNOT be only a material one
for the CAUSE of these problems is NOT material.
The transforming power that humanity experienced through the ages was
maybe due to people like Moses, wandering in the desert with persons
who hardly believed in him, to Christ who was homeless and who had
gathered only a handful of followers in his lifetime, to Mahomet who
was keeping the camels, to Buddha, ....... to all these "powerless"
people who had to face scepticism and the opposition of the religious
and political rulers of their time and who succeeded after centuries
to be still not only mentioned but loved and followed. In the last
century appeared BAHA`U`LLAH, he was again persecuted and exiled and
imprioned during 40 years. To-day more than 5 millions of persons
in ALL the countries live acording to the pattern of life that he
established. He had said "THE EARTH IS BUT ONE COUNTRY AND ALL
MANKIND ITS CITIZENS". 1994-1995 was the 150th anniversary of the
beginning of the BAHA`I FAITH. If you want to know more about it
look in your country in the telephone directory under BAHA`I. Good
luck. Peace is the will of God dor to-day and it is inevitable
exactly as we cannot stop the growth of a tree when it is planted.
We can only accelerate this process.
